Forest Transition and Metropolitan Transformations in Developed Countries: Interpreting Apparent and Latent Dynamics with Local Regression Models

چکیده

Metropolitan fringes in Southern Europe preserve, under different territorial contexts, natural habitats, relict woodlands, and mixed agro-forest systems acting as a sink of biodiversity ecosystem services ecologically vulnerable landscapes. Clarifying socioeconomic processes that underlie land-use change metropolitan regions is relevant for forest conservation policies. At the same time, long-term dynamics fringe forests northern Mediterranean basin have been demonstrated to be rather mixed, with deforestation up 1950s subsequent recovery more evident recent decades. Interpreting Complex Regression Models

Interpretation of a machine learning induced models is critical for feature engineering, debugging, and, arguably, compliance. Yet, best of breed machine learning models tend to be very complex. This paper presents a method for model interpretation which has the main benefit that the simple interpretations it provides are always grounded in actual sets of learning examples. The method is valida...

Metropolitan Migration in Developed Countries: A Cross-National Data Base

Cross-national studies have mushroomed in the field of demography over the past two decades. Yet there have been some surprising omissions. One of these, until recently, has been a lack of comparative work on internal migration leading to big city population changes in the world's developed countries of North America, Europe, and the Pacific Rim. The reason for this void does not lie with a lac...

Robust Estimation in Linear Regression with Molticollinearity and Sparse Models

‎One of the factors affecting the statistical analysis of the data is the presence of outliers‎. ‎The methods which are not affected by the outliers are called robust methods‎. ‎Robust regression methods are robust estimation methods of regression model parameters in the presence of outliers‎. ‎Besides outliers‎, ‎the linear dependency of regressor variables‎, ‎which is called multicollinearity...

Latent Dependency Forest Models

Figure 1: All possible pairwise dependencies between the three variables and a root node. Each dependency has a weight and only the dependencies with non-zero weights are shown. The weight ws|xi , which is the probability of generating a stop node given the assignment Xi = xi is not drawn for simplicity, but it can be computed using the normalization condition discussed in the LDFM-S subsection...
